Wine & Dine

Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort offers a choice of restaurants that allows everyone to give free rein to their desire to discover new flavours at every meal.

The variety of choices offered the originality in the preparation of dishes, the finely balanced mix of tradition and modernism in the fusion of flavours, these are the watchwords of the food at Telfair.

Unique to Telfair is the interaction between the diners and the chef allowing guest to contribute ideas while he is creating dishes, in full view of everyone in a spectacular open kitchen.

In tribute to Annabella, the wife of Charles Telfair, this restaurant has been designed in the style typical of plantation owners homes. Run as a 'Chic' brasserie, with half-moon shaped banquettes, rattan chairs and traditional open kitchen which allows customers to watch the food being prepared, these are all elements that give this place the special atmosphere of a journey backwards through time.Divided into four distinct areas, Annabella's can choose a different setting for itself every day, such as for example, the terrace along the Citronniers River.

Every day the chef presents a creative menu which is constantly renewed, offering European cuisine with Mauritian influences.

Built on the white sand at the lagoon's edge, the Gin'ja restaurant's décor is fashionable but the atmosphere is relaxed. This restaurant invites you to experience Japanese and Asian cuisine, both traditional and contemporary and is headed by our Japanese chef Hiroyuki Tamagawa. The Chef creates an inspired cuisine where creativity respects the original flavours of the products used. Around the Robota Yaki, fish, shellfish and seafood are prepared on skewers and grilled or served to you as sashimi or sushi, in the Japanese fashion.

At lunchtime you can enjoy the beautiful different views from the quiet banks of the Citronniers River and the vastness of the ocean whose horizon stretches to infinity. In the evening, the restaurant adopts a more sophisticated atmosphere, tables are set on our "deck" decorated with candles, ideal for a dinner for two.

Soon, the guests of Heritage Le Telfair will be able to enjoy our "Sushi Bar" and taste one of the many Sakés during or after their meal.

Le Château de Bel Ombre

Le Château de Bel Ombre is an enchanting and exceptional place.
Punctuated by large old trees overlooking a captivating French style garden, which spreads out as far as the eye can see (with the Bel Ombre golf course below it), this historic house dating from the nineteenth century has been tastefully restored and has brought bygone days back to life again.Old-fashioned charm emanates from its antique furniture, beautiful panelling, high ceilings, majestic steps and veranda. Ideal for a romantic dinner in a fairyland of silky lights, or dreams of times gone by, Château de Bel Ombre exudes an atmosphere where dreams and romance reign supreme, an intimate ambience in which to enjoy the unique treasures of local Mauritian cuisine.

To prolong their experience of culinary pleasures, guests of Heritage Le Telfair enjoy access to two other restaurants in our nearby hotel, the Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort.

In an entirely different atmosphere, which this time refers to the African origins of Mauritius, customers have the opportunity of dining at the 'Seven Colours Energy Cuisine', a unique culinary experience that involves all the senses or to have lunch or dinner at the "Infinity Blue" "toes in the sand" restaurant which has a Mediterranean menu and seafood specialities.

Le Palmier

Located on the edge of the beach and beside the pool, this restaurant offers a light and varied cuisine throughout the day with dishes cooked over a wood fire or barbecues with Mediterranean influences ... the perfect place to enjoy the sea without interruption. The place to eat in your swimsuit and sarong!

Cavendish bar

The name "Cavendish" refers to a type of banana imported to Mauritius by Charles Telfair.

It is in this bar before or after dinner that those in the know relax in comfortable armchairs enjoying cocktail, liqueur or the best cigars. For whiskey connoisseurs, a menu of 100 "single malts" exceeds the most demanding expectations.

Live music accompanies these pleasant moments.
As for the décor, the "English smoking room" atmosphere of colonial times is enhanced by beautiful coffered ceilings decorated with the arms of personalities who stayed at Bel Ombre.

Mashatu Game Reserve in the Tuli nature reserve, Botswana, is a veritable treasure chest, offering something for everyone! Choose between luxurious and elegant accommodation within the Main Camp, or the more rustic experience of the Tent Camp. Mountain bike, horse and walking safaris add depth to the traditional African safari experience. Game viewing at Mashatu is abundant with daily sightings of Africa’s finest – The Land Of The Giants!

In the remote eastern corner of Botswana, at the confluence of the Limpopo and Shashe rivers, lies an area known historically as the Tuli enclave - a diverse wilderness of savannah, riverine forests, marshland, open plains and sandstone outcrops. It is here that the largest of the Rattray Reserves is situated - Mashatu Game Reserve. The name is derived from the magnificent Mashatu trees, which occur throughout this immense tract of privately owned land. Mashatu is also the home of no less than seven of Africa's giants: the African elephant, the lion, giraffe, the baobab tree, the eland, the ostrich, and the kori bustard. It is fitting therefore, that some 75,000 acres / 30,000 hectares of pristine game land, be set aside for these unique, prodigious features of this exhilarating continent.

Mashatu Game Reserve, an area of history and legend, offers some of the most exciting game viewing in Africa. It is a place of exceptional beauty where one can explore the rugged, unspoilt African landscapes either in the comfort of open 4-wheel drive vehicles, on a walking safaris, on mountain bicycles, or horse back, guided by expert rangers and experienced trackers. In addition to the game experience, Mashatu offers a view of Africa, unchanged since the days of early visitors such as Kipling, Selous and artist/explorer Sir Thomas Baines. Historic and archaeological sites abound; notable are the Motloutse Ruins and the Pitsani Koppie sites.

The excitement of Mashatu has not changed over time. It is still home to large herds of elephant, prides of lion and cheetah. Along the river courses, huge Mashatu trees provide shade for eland, impala, wildebeest, giraffe and zebra, whilst at night, the bat-eared fox, African Wildcat and the magnificent leopard search for prey. Some 366 species of birds may be seen. Mashatu Game Reserve proudly provides a refuge for the largest, single population of elephant on privately owned land in Africa. Known as the relic herds of Shashe, these elephants are the last living testament to the great herds that once populated the meandering Limpopo valley. Today, the population on Mashatu Game Reserve alone, is estimated to number in excess of 500.

The wildlife experience at Mashatu is personalised. Dedicated, experienced Tswana rangers and trackers are keen to show you their world. Radio-linked 4-wheel drive vehicles, groups of mountain bicycles or horses set out at dawn and again at dusk in search of the diverse variety of fauna and flora which abound throughout the reserve. Whether you visit Mashatu for the excitement of the big game viewing, the relaxation of unspoilt Africa or the quiet luxury of the camps, you will not be disappointed.

Getting right up close and personal with these fascinating pachyderms enables guests to learn more about their behaviour, their complex social structure and their communication skills.

Andrei Snyman, who is based on Mashatu Game Reserve, is the predator researcher of the Northern Tuli Game Reserve. His study specializes in the lions and leopards of this area. Andrei has extensive experience working with large carnivores, covering aspects such as capture, radio tracking, monitoring and censusing. For the last few years Andrei has been studying the lion population dynamics in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. Andrei is currently running the Northern Tuli Predator Project and conducting a lion research project focusing on the socio organisation of lions in Tuli. In order to subsidise his research, Andrei conducts interpretive drives where a more detailed insight into the predators of Mashatu is offered. For a contribution to his research endeavours, join Andrei on an afternoon predator research drive where he will share with you the extraordinary life of leopards and lions from a researcher’s perspective, as you search for these charismatic large predators. Come and experience for yourself a few hours in the life of a predator researcher and learn how Andrei aims to better understand the King-of-Beasts and the Prince-of-Stealth.

Open guest area, a secluded hide, refreshing swimming pool and 20 ‘meru styled’ tents comple the lodge which lies beneath a forest of sturdy knob thorns.

It is within these tree tops that the largest colony of white back vultures occurs.

The lodge is unique for several reasons and amongst these is the fact that it is situated within a game rich reserve affording the guests wonderful sightings between our open landrover safaris into the Chobe and boat cruises along the Chobe River.

The camp perimeter is fenced to keep the elephant from moving through the camp, instead now they move around the camp boundary, along their well worn paths to and from the Chobe River. Your tent also ensures that you are able to hear the multitude of night sounds as you drift away with vivid thoughts of the experiences of your day on safari.

Each of the tents features twin beds, ensuite shower and toilet, mini safe and fan.

At Elephant Valley we have found that a morning cruise along the Chobe River provides a couple of distinct advantages they include the following; During the morning the river is distinctly less busy with fewer boats. This also permits a longer experience, assuming that sightings kept us busy, and we do not have to cut the trip short to get back before sunset. It does also permit a greater length of the river to be explored.

In the afternoons we have found that the Chobe National Park is conversely less busy and we are able to enjoy a sundowner along the river to capture the sunset on camera. It is also during the late afternoon that game becomes most active.
