The atmosphere at Taita Falcon Lodge is casual and informal and normal safari resort clothing is both practical and acceptable.  During the summer months, cool clothing is essential, with long protective clothing for evenings.  From May to August, it can be quite cold in the evenings and early mornings, so warmer clothing is advised.

Hats, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, walking shoes and appropriate clothing and shoes for activities such as white water rafting, abseiling and horse riding should be brought along.  Binoculars are also advised.  For white water rafting, shoes which are suitable for rock climbing but which can get wet and can be strapped securely to the foot are essential.

Taita Falcon Lodge is situated on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River, 11km. by road from the Victoria Falls, 20km from Livingstone.  The Lodge is perched on the very edge of the Batoka Gorge above Rapids 16 and 17, offering a spectacular view of the raging waters 200m below.

Access to Taita Falcon Lodge is via Livingstone and Victoria Falls by road or air.  Scheduled and chartered airlines fly into Livingstone, including  British Airways and South African Airways

A 4WD vehicle is necessary during the rainy season, and a high clearance vehicle is recommended at all times.

Taita Falcon Lodge provides collection and drop off transfers from either the airport, Day Activity Centre (Sun Hotels), bus or train stations or from Livingstone Town or Victoria Falls border post.  These transfers are included in the Fully Inclusive and Full Board rates. Transfers can be arranged from Victoria Falls Airport and Botswana for an additional charge.  Taita Falcon Lodge also has a heli-pad.

Some nationalities have to pay visas on entering Zambia. Please enquire if you need to know how much. Visa can be acquired on entry with Immigration but we would suggest that where possible clients must get visas in advance from the Zambian Embassy/High Commission in their countries. Double and multiple entry visas must be applied for in advance.

We suggest that malaria prophylactics are taken at least one week prior to arrival and are continued for at least two weeks after their stay at the Lodge.  A basic medical kit should always be carried in Africa.  A doctors surgery is available in Livingstone and we are members of an immediate medi-vac scheme for all of our clients provided they have their own insurance.

The Lodge is situated in a natural bush environment with each chalet secluded amongst the native flora.  The gardens around the Lodge and chalets are a colorful blend of indigenous plants with paths weaving from the chalets to the pool, restaurant and bar areas.

Bird life is abundant around the Lodge grounds, with resident Vereaux (Black) Eagles, Peregrine Falcons, and the Taita Falcon from which the Lodge takes its name.  A variety of other raptors and smaller birds are familiar to the Lodge and are commonly sighted.

Each chalet is en-suite, with mosquito nets on all the beds.  The chalets are open plan and constructed of reed and stone. We use mosquito coils in the rooms, and hot water bottles during the colder months.

Of the 7 chalets, 2 can be made up to family rooms sleeping a maximum of 2 adults and 3 children.  The remaining 5 chalets can be made up as either double, twin or triple rooms.

We serve a sumptuous 3 course buffet meal in the evenings.  Light and dark meats are served each night and a selection of vegetables and salads.  The Lodge needs to be advised of any special dietary requirements prior to the clients arrival.

Taita Falcon Lodge offers hiking trails from 1.5 hours to 2-3 days in and around the Batoka Gorge. These are guided walks, and for overnight camps, clients must bring their own camping equipment.

Game drives, cultural village tours and sunset cruises can be offered exclusively by Taita Falcon, and the various activities that the region has to offer are arranged by the Lodge.  These include white water rafting, elephant and horse back safaris, scenic flights, canoeing to name but a few.  A full list of activities and current prices are available on request.

The Victoria Falls area is a photographers paradise, particularly along the Zambezi where one can capture wildlife scenes against a landscape of water and African vistas.  A telephoto lens of 100-300mm is advised for both game and bird life and ultra violet filters should be considered.  For early morning and late afternoon game drives, high speed film is recommended.  35mm film can be developed and memory sticks downloaded in Livingstone.

- Visa
Some nationalities have to pay visas on entering Zambia. Please enquire if you need to know how much. Visa can be acquired on entry with Immigration but we would suggest that where possible clients must get visas in advance from the Zambian Embassy/High Commission in their countries. Double and multiple entry visas must be applied for in advance.

Please also note that visits to Zimbabwe and to the Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side, are possible.  Most nationalities however require a visa, which can be purchased at the border.

Scuba diving in Inhambane is amongst the best in the world, with reefs close to every beach, including the world famous Manta Reef and Gallaria. Regular sightings of Giant Manta Rays, Whale Sharks, Turtles and other teeming marine life are the norm. There are many professional scuba diving operations throughout the province. Snorkeling is also excellent.

Inhambane – glorious beaches, fantastic weather, splendid seafood and friendly locals all make a holiday in Mozambique an affordable and unforgettable experience.

Inhambane is a photographers dream; it possesses a unique charm that can only originate from a rusty old town with delapidated buildings and neglected maintenance. It is worth exploring the fascinating mix of African, old-world Portugese and muslim cultures.

While little more than two main roadways, Inhambane offers a comforting break on the journey north to Beira, or to the beautiful beaches of Tofo. The main boulevard, directly opposite the ferry port, offers small shops, the central market, some banking services (no travellers cheques) and possibly the best fresh bread in all of Mozambique. Accomodations in Inhambane are limited as most tourists head east towards Tofo. Minibuses leave from behind the Market regularly - 15,000 Meticais one-way. Inhambane also offers decent Internet access at 50,000 per hour, though regular power disruptions may mean a lost email or two.

KUNAME RIVER LODGE (Karongwe Game Reserve) Limpopo Province         KUNAME RIVER LODGE (Karongwe Game Reserve) Limpopo Province

Kuname River Lodge is a small, unashamedly exclusive, luxury safari lodge set in about 9,000 hectares of pristine African bush, in the Karongwe Private Game Reserve. We are only 45 minutes drive from the world-famous Kruger National Park in South Africa.

Bordered by the towering Drakensberg escarpment on the west and set in game-rich, lush, riverine vegetation, the facility offers a variety of breathtaking views, diverse landscapes and some of the best big five game-viewing opportunities in southern Africa.

Our Passion

At Kuname we are driven by passion. Passion for the land, passion for the animals and plants, passion for service and passion for the community in which we live. Our guiding principle is "responsible tourism" - to conserve the eco-system and preserve one of Africa's endangered spaces.

Kuname River Lodge will touch you deeply. Your visit will always hold a special place in your heart. It will rejuvenate you and soothe your soul. It is more than just a safari, more than a luxury lodge - it is the essence of Africa!

Accommodation at the lodge is in five private, comfortable chalets, nestled in dense bush overlooking the majestic Drakensberg escarpment.

The air-conditioned chalets are decorated in an elegant African style, with each item of artwork having its own story. The en-suite bathrooms include an outdoor shower as well as a luxurious outdoor bath. The magnificent views from the quaint private wooden decks on each of the chalets simply take your breath away.

Enjoy a cocktail or freshly brewed cup of coffee in our sophisticated guest area.
Relax in the shade on our magnificent wooden deck amongst the surrounding riparian bush.
Refresh and invigorate yourself in the cool, clear waters of the rock pool or spend an KUNAME RIVER LODGE (Karongwe Game Reserve) Limpopo Province
afternoon browsing in our well-stocked library.

Situated in a secluded, private garden that leads off the bedroom, the Honeymoon Suite's outdoor bathroom is truly magical - the perfect spot to soak in a candlelit bath beneath a canopy of stars and reflect on the day's experiences.

The Wildlife

Each morning before the fiery sunrise paints the sky and every evening before the sun sets, an experienced, highly-qualified, field guide and tracker takes guests on unhurried game drives in our open game vehicle to seek out and get close to the Big Five and the dozens of other animal species found on the conservancy.

But a game drive at Kuname is about more than simply ticking off animals on a 'game-sighting list' and following the Big Five. With incredible bird life and century old trees, professional guides, each with an astounding knowledge of the environment, ensure that visitors become participants, rather than just spectators as they feel the rhythms of the veld. A game drive at Kuname is about getting immersed in an African bush experience. A tactile occasion.

Walking Trails

A bush walk with an experienced ranger is a chance to literally step into a world few ever get the opportunity to experience. It is a nature expedition. Participants get to see animals on their own level, in their unique environment. They learn how everything in a delicate ecosystem has to be in perfect balance if it is to survive and flourish.

On a bush walk the emphasis is on the little creatures and tiny things that play vital roles in the functioning of this unique environment. Participants learn about medicinal plants, the region's lesser-known fauna and flora and veld-skills that have been passed from generation to generation by the region's indigenous people.

KUNAME RIVER LODGE (Karongwe Game Reserve) Limpopo Province

To really feel the bush one needs to sit quietly and listen and feel Africa's rhythms. Slowly the ancient edifice of wondrous architecture - the landscape, will educate your spirit, reminding you of the fragile intricacies of the bush and our special role and responsibility to protect sacred land.

With over 250 different bird species at home on the conservancy, Kuname River Lodge is a spectacular birding destination for the more discerning bird-watcher.

Join a skilled and knowledgeable field guide for a birding excursion to identify and appreciate the vast amount of species that Kuname has to offer.

Dining at Kuname is a special treat. A time to enjoy a kaleidoscope of flavours inspired by Africa but guided by the culinary traditions of Europe.
Our gourmet chef lured from one of South Africa's top restaurants ensures each meal at Kuname is an unforgettable gastronomic occasion. A barbecue with fine wines on the wooden viewing-deck or an elegant bush dinner, while you inhale the earthy scents of the African bush, will make your taste-buds soar.
